Message from the Principal of TMGS : Puan Noriza

[Ladies, the message below is a "cut and paste" from the email which i received from Puan Noriza, the current Principal of TMGS.]

Hi Lean See,

Thank you for your concern regarding your alma mater and Radiah has kept her promise..thanks to her too…sorry for the late reply I'm rather buzy with school work commitments...However, I am very happy and excited because only now the ex-girls has responded to my call for help.

Before I answer all issues pertaining to the school and also about the current administration, I would like first to introduce myself to you.

I am Noriza Sulaiman, ex-Convent Taiping girl. I first served in this school in 1998 as the afternoon supervisor. Completed my MA in 2000 and continued my service in TMGS as afternoon supervisor until 2005. 1st posting as Principal was in Bidor Secondary School .Was there for a year.Mac 2007 I was back in Sri Kota Secondry School Taiping. In October 2007 I was sent back to TMGS. Although I am currently here for only 6 months as the Principal, TMGS is not new to me..

When I was the afternoon supervisor, I already had plans for the school. There are many things that should be given attention to urgently esp. the termites..Unfortunately, I cannot do anything, I did not have the authority to manage the funds and it was not within my control at that time. To me priority should be given to the students. They should be given proper basic facilities like chairs and tables..very sad to say our girls don't even have proper chairs and tables unlike most government schools. We can only afford plastic chairs for the girls..

TMGS is a missionary school. We have to bear all expenses including maintenance for any repairs. For your information, the ceilings of most of the science labs have huge holes.. caused by wild monkeys..

The 1st task I did as the principal was to call the pest control man..I wanted to make sure that the termites problem was solved immediately… It had attacked 2 rooms in the main building and also Blok Knight..( if you remember the building that used to house the principal of TMGS) I was shocked when the Treasurer of the Parents Teachers' Association told me that the school had only RM2000.00 in its coffers. Anyway I managed to solve only part of the problem …that is treat only the main building. Still praying and hoping that somebody will help us with the maintenance and repair of other buildings

Lean See,

Regarding whether the current administration can or cannot govern the school like how you all want it to be, I cannot guarantee, but I promise I will do my very best to make sure that the school's vision that is "To generate excellent human capital" and the school's mission to excel in every aspect with special focus on the academic field is achieved. We have lots of programs and activities for the students but unfortunately we don't have funds.. most of the funds are being used for maintenance and repairs.

The vision will be achieved if we have funds and that's why I thank god, I met Mr Ong.., to him doing charity work is part of his life. such a nice man.TMGS will be inviting Mr Ong to be in the board of governors or to be in the maintenance committee of the PTA.With him around we hope our call for help will be heard and answered.

[Note: Mr Ong was the person who alerted the Class of ’81 on the state of the school].

I would like to assure all of you that the funds will be properly managed. Before any money can be taken out, I have to present a proposal to the PTA committee. Only after the proposal has been approved by a majority of the committee members can the funds be used.I am not saying that the present committee did not do anything to raise funds for the school. It's just that due to their limited resources and contact they cannot raise a lot. Therefore I am earnestly appealing to all the successful and generous ex-Treacherians to come forth to help their alma mater.

Lean See,

Actually, there are lots of areas that need attention…but highest on my priority list is to upgrade the staff room. I just want you and your friends to do something to the staff room. Ask Radiah, she said the staff room was like that since she was around and I am sure the staff room is 100 years old. I have sent pictures to various department but no one wants to help upgrade the staff room..I think TMGS teachers deserve a more presentable room.. the estimated cost to upgrade the staff room is RM10K..the contractor will plaster all the broken beams and change all the "windows" ( made up of wire mesh ) .Right now if it rains, rain water splashes in. Funds donated by the girls will be used for upgrading the staff room first. All donations have to be channeled to the Persatuan Ibubapa dan Guru SMK (P) Treacher Methodist, Taiping and sent to 5, Jalan Muzium, 34000 Taiping.

That's all for the time being. I look forward to hearing from you again soon.

Warm regards,

Noriza

Dear Lean See

It was a delight for me to stumble upon your blog yesterday. I'm one year your senior -- one of the quiet ones so don't know if you can recall me! Happy to see your blog. I started one earlier this week and you might like to visit at: http//tmgsoldgirlsgiveback.blogspot.com. My contact is sweebin@gmail.com. I'd like to post a link on my blog to yours (like you, I also started blogging for this reason). Would you like that? Let me know. We can work together to churn up awareness of our school's situation. Thanks and all the best to your effort.
